GENERAL
My thirty years experience in the field of architectural design has enabled
me to develop a diverse background in all disciplines including; project
conception, project delivery, project design, construction documents,
bidding and negotiating, project construction and facility management.
As owner of a design firm in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, I have worked on and
coordinated the design and construction document process for many
different jobs from private single family residences to multi-story
commercial developments. This experience combined with my initial
educational background at Macomb Community College in Warren,
Michigan has afforded me the privilege of teaching. It is truly an honor to
be able to work with so many enthusiastic and creative individuals who all
have the same career oriented goals - to pursue advancement in the field of
engineering technology. Therefore, with this opportunity, I have committed
and dedicated a great portion of my time and energy to help others pursue their educational and professional goals. It is my hope, that through a creative and passionate approach to teaching, my students will walk away with a comprehensive understanding of the subject taught and thus be able to apply it in a practical and productive manner.
Upon my reflection of education and what I as an instructor can bring to the classroom to facilitate the learning process, I find my mission as an instructor to be the following:
To lead my class as a facilitator instead of an instructor. With this approach the class is given more responsibility to take the initiative to share information with other students through related experience and supplemental learning.
To create a positive learning environment utilizing a creative approach to teaching.
To recognize the various learning abilities and methods and to work with all students to maximize their learning potential.
To realize that if a student fails, then I fail. I will always remember that the classroom is the place where mistakes are allowed, wrong answers can be corrected, test can be retaken and assignments can be redone. The classroom is the practice field for the theatre of employment. It is in the classroom that we can train, fix, hone and perfect our skills. A positive environment that produces student success will result in a successful and confident employee.
To help the students fully move from just "knowing" to combine "knowing" with "understanding" and to incorporate Recall, Comprehension, Evaluation and Invention into the learning process.
To give every student the best resources and tools possible to succeed in both the classroom and in the work force.
To motivate and encourage students and to challenge them intellectually so that I might better prepare them with the necessary skills to compete in today's competitive environment.
Please see my teaching strategies for each subject taught on the respective web page to get a better understanding as to how that particular class will be taught and what the student can expect.

WELCOME!
This course is designed to introduce the student to the concepts, practices, standards, and drafting techniques needed for architectural design. A majority of the book is written for residential construction with the final four chapters dedicated to commercial design. Students learn both the content and skills necessary to become a proficient drafter in the field of architecture.
